WE are a group of twelve women artists lifting and making visible the stories of the others. Others who do not fit Those of us who do not fit neatly in the consensus boxes, neatly in racial, neatly in cultural categories. WE live ‘in between the middle’ of two binaries, whether it be black, white, democrat, republican, woman, man. We are here. We exist. Our stories matter.
WE WE are are bi/multi-racial/cultural, immigrant or descendants of immigrants investigating the many ways we “do not fit”, through sharing space and stories; research and investigation; discussing the history of imperialism and colonialism and its effect on us, on the non-white world. . WE are here. We work hard. To decolonize and humanize ourselves.
Over the past years, we have met to share, to question, to investigate, digging deep into complexities of cultural what identity in America that exists is within and without anthe inherited construct and context of whiteness---not as ain skin color, but as a default, as a delusion of superiority, as a privilege, as a systemic system of oppression. Due to the complexity of our identity we have found ourselves in spaces where we have been confused for, accused of and treated as white, thereby presuming agreement and collusion. WE are here. We are not white. We , a system we do not align ourselves with an inhuman system of oppression against all non-white peoples and white allies. . In lieu of police brutality, calls for bans, for walls, we hope to provide an artistic platform for difficult discussions on the complexities of cultural identity in America to move us towards humanity.
